Buying A Bar For Your Dining Room? Make Sure It HasThe Following Five Things
Setting up a dining room bar can seem like a complicated, expensive process. The truth is that is can be as complicated or as simple as you want it to be. It all depends on what type of set up you want. There's an endless amount of bar accessories available for anyone that wants a professional bar in their home. But, if you just want a nice bar where you can entertain family and friends, there's really only 5 essential bar accessories that you need.
Bar Ice Bucket and Tongs
While you can always run back and forth to the refrigerator for ice, it's much easier to have a ice bucket at your dining room bar. Invest in a good quality insulated ice bucket. A cheap ice bucket just won't keep the ice frozen for very long. Choose a fairly large sized ice bucket if you do a lot of entertaining. And, keep some ice tongs close at hand so that you don't have to handle the ice.
Essential Glassware for Your Home Bar
If you don't already have bar glasses and don't want to purchase them, your regular kitchen glasses will work just fine. But, if you're going to have a nice bar in your dining room, you really should have the right glassware. Every bar needs shot glasses and if you plan on fixing mixed drinks, you really need some 7 ounce glasses. If you plan to serve wine, you will need a set of wine or champagne glasses. And, if you love beer, you might want to add some beer mugs to your glassware collection.
Bar Jigger
A bar jigger is an essential bar accessory if you want delicious mixed drinks. Even a professional bartender would have trouble guessing at the perfect amount of ingredients. Choose one that has a 1 1/2 ounce measure on one end and a 3/4 ounce measure on the other end. Although a glass jigger will work, a stainless steel jigger will provide the best results. Glass jiggers generally hold more alcohol than the stainless ones.
Drink Shaker
If you want the best tasting cocktails, you are going to need a drink shaker. There are two different types of shakers, the Cobbler shaker and the Boston shaker. The Cobbler shaker has three separate pieces, the tumbler, the lid and a cap that fits on top of the lid with a built-in strainer. The Boston shaker only has two pieces, a glass container that will hold around 500 ml and a metal one that will hold about 900 ml. Either type of shaker will work just fine for most home bars. However, if you purchase a Boston shaker, you will need a separate strainer.
Barspoon
A barspoon does a lot of different jobs so it's very important that you have one for your dining room bar. Not only is a barspoon used to stir cocktails, it's also used to measure some of the ingredients. You can also use it to crush ingredients that you plan to add to the drinks. Barspoons are made of stainless steel and are generally about ten inches in length. And, they will measure one teaspoon of alcohol or drink flavoring.
Extra Home Bar Accessories
It's always a good idea to keep a sharp knife and cutting board handy for slicing fruits and garnishes for drinks. If you plan on serving wine, make sure that you have a corkscrew and a few extra corks. You will also need a can opener and a bottle opener. And, depending on what type of drinks you plan to make, you may want to keep a blender under your bar.

Tips On How To Setup Your Home Bar
If you want to be a great host then there are a couple of the main factors that you will need to consider in order to put on a great show for your guests. The first will be yourself, and how well you perform as a host. The second will be how well equipped your home is in order to accommodate people. For the second point, getting a home bar is something that will add a massive amount of value to any occasion that you put on.
Setting up your own home bar can be something that can be very simple or a lot more complicated. If you wish to go out and purchase an entire set up that can be installed in your basement equipped with wood bar stools and everything else then that is fine. If, however, you would prefer to make more of a make-shift bar by using cabinets and a counter then this is also possible.
One of the things that you have to consider closely when creating a bar in your house would be how much you are going to be spending on it. Getting one built into your house will cost a lot of money, and also can cost a fair amount if you buy an already made one as well and simply install it yourself. The cheapest way to do it would be to simply create your own one using cabinets, wooden bar stools, and anything else you happen to have available within your home.
Of course, stocking the bar is going to be very important. You need to make sure that you have adequate drinks that will cater to all manner of guests who might appear in your home for any sort of occasion.
It is crucial that the bar be stocked with a selection of white and red wines, beers, spirits, and liqueurs. In addition to this you should also make sure that you have provision for those who do not drink alcoholic beverages. Such things as non alcoholic wines and beers, as well as the customary soft drinks and waters will be essential.
Finally, it will also be important for you to make sure that the bar is also stocked with the necessary accessories so that any event can run as smoothly as possible. You will not want to be rushing off into the kitchen to grab a corkscrew if one is not already equipped in the bar area. Items such as ice buckets, blenders, measuring spoons, shot glasses, serving trays, hand mixers, and a host of other odds and ends should always be kept in a cabinet or drawer in your home bar.
If you do all of this you will have yourself a well stocked and well equipped home bar for use on any occasion.

Capitol Hill food+drink | Kiki looks for buyer, Woody's goes late(r), Poquitos goes local (Capitol hill seattle)
(Image: Kiki)
Hey tipster, hook up your friendly neighborhood blogger -- email CHS
* In a move that will undoubtedly bring out the "I told you so" crowd, Pine
at Belmont's **Kiki Tap & Eatery** is for sale and looking for a financial
injection to help keep it going.
"The restaurant is still operating," said Kik's **Miki Nguyen** about the
decision to look for an investor -- or a buyer. "We're just hoping to find the
right partner or investor."
"For any business, it takes time to grow. We're continuing to tweak what we
offer."
A recurring theme in the Capitol Hill food+drink economy is the "doomed
location." It's a myth. Probably. Sometimes it's just a matter of the right
concept coming along. Probably. Sometimes we forget that a restaurant thrived
in a particular space for a long time before a cycle of less successful
concepts gave it a try. Maybe **8oz Burger Bar** will redefine the recent
history of its home at Union and Broadway. **La Spiga** successfully called
the spot home for years before moving to 12th Ave.
