Can The Food Your Dog Eats Be Leading To Seizures?
Some believe that commercial dog food is at the heart of many different illness in canines, and I think it may have contributed to my dog's seizures and may have even caused them. Cory, my dog had seizures and they gradually lowered in occurrences once I ceased feeding him kibble and canned dog food; then, five years ago, they stopped completely and I never once put him on any anti- epileptic medications, that is why I have come to this conclusion. However, are you aware of the fact that certain foods can lead to seizures in dogs? Some of these caught me by surprise!
* Chocolate Foods. Nearly all pets owners are aware that chocolate can lead to seizures and to death for dogs. My dog, Cory, ate some of my son's chocolate candy from Halloween. He had consumed quite a bit of it when Jayson discovered him, with Cory's head deep inside the bowl of chocolate bars and his tail wagging with exuberant glee. My son contacted the poison control center and was told to get Cory to drink some Hydrogen Peroxide. This caused Cory to throw up. Lucky for us, I had a bottle of the stuff in the first aid cupboard! Of course, Jayson led Cory outside for this part, as it was sure to be messy. We were very lucky that Jayson found out about it soon enough so that no harm was done. If ever you suspect your dog to have gotten into and eaten chocolate, don't hesitate to call your vet immediately. If you do indeed, catch your dog in the act of eating chocolate, you should use the Hydrogen Peroxide treatment. Keep in mind that milk chocolate will do less harm to your dog than will dark chocolate.
* Onions or Products Containing Onion Powder. These contain sulfoxides and disulfides which can cause damage to the red blood cells, resulting in the dog becoming anemic.
* Fish That is Undercooked or Not Cooked at All Distinctly if you are located in the Pacific Northwest, you should know that, if eaten raw, salmon and other fish often carry a fluke and that fluke carries a bacteria that is known to cause seizures and even death in canines. The danger is completely eliminated if you cook the fish first, although you have to be careful to get all the bones out of the cooked fish before allowing your dog to eat it. I've been told that freezing the fish at a certain temperature will also kill the fluke & eliminate the problem, but I'm not enough of a scientist to know what that temperature is or how long the fish would need to be frozen in order to be comfortable feeding raw fish to my dog.
* Foods Containing Nutmeg Of course, not many people would ever think to put nutmeg on their dog's food, but it can lead to seizures, trembling, and even death. Just don't share any of your cookies containing nutmeg with your pooch and you should be OK with this one.
* Mushrooms. There are mushrooms out there, especially the ones found in the wild, that contain toxins that have been shown to cause problems for canines. Because I have this knowledge, I know to keep Cory away from the mushrooms when we go on our walks. 'Leave it' is a great command to teach your dog early.
* Food Made for Cats Poor Cory, he loves to lick the plate clean after our kitty's done eating, and now that I found out about this one, he won't be able to anymore. It turns out that cat food is too high in protein and fats for dogs to eat. Well, maybe licking the plate is still an option, but remember that cat food is not interchangeable with dog food.
* Apple Seeds are specific no-no's. Maybe you weren't aware that apple seeds and pits from other fruits contain poison cyanide, and that will definitely cause seizures.
* Grapes and Raisins. There is conflicting information regarding raisins and grapes because when I discovered that these foods can lead to kidney failure in dogs, I was actually using a dog training manual that said to feed dogs raisins as treats. I called the person who wrote the training manual to discuss this and she dismissed my issues because she said she has fed her dogs raisins for as long as she has been training them. All I can say is be aware of the risks and do more research before giving grapes or raisins to your dog.
* The Whites of Eggs You are certainly able to give your dog full eggs that include both the whites and the yolks; however, it is not safe to allow him to eat just the whites. This is because egg whites include a protein called avidin, which takes important B vitamins away from your dog's body. The yoke seems to have an element that counteracts the avidin protein in the whites, so if an egg is eaten whole, the depletion of vitamin B is no longer an issue.

I am eating wheatabix and a salad for lunch with lettuce, red onion, cheese and light mayonaise and a bowl of mixed frozen veg carrots, cauliflower and brocolli and a banana for a snack. Maybe and instead of drinking coke Im drinking sparkling water with a hint of lemon and lime. Should i be eating less or more?
You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter - add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)
Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.
The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it's own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" - have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese - pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad - steaks - a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min for daily fiber needs.
As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories because insulin, the fat storage hormone is not activated. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight.
Most overweight & obese people have blood sugar & insulin dysfunctions and can NEVER eat carbs as someone with a functioning body can. They make the mistake of going back to the way of eating that made them fat and that is not possible and yes they will gain all weight back if they eat what they ate that made them obese originally. Insanity is defined as doing the exact same thing, in the exact same way and expecting different results. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.
Missouri football coach suspended after DUI charge (KSAT)
University of Missouri head football coach Gary Pinkel has been suspended for
a week and docked another week's pay after his arrest on a drunken-driving
charge, the university's athletics director announced Thursday. Pinkel, 59,
was released on $500 bail after his arrest in Columbia, about 120 miles west
of St. Louis, according to Boone County sheriff's department records. His
unpaid suspension took effect Thursday afternoon, Athletics Director Mike
Alden told reporters. And when Pinkel comes back, he will have to donate his
next weekly salary to the school's Wellness Resource Center, which teaches
alcohol-awareness programs to students. He will also have to issue a public
letter of apology; perform 50 hours of community service; forfeit any bonus if
the Tigers make it into a bowl game; and see his salary frozen for a year.
"He's a tremendous guy, and he's got great character and he was unbelievably
remorseful, as I would expect him to be," Alden said. But Pinkel's actions
were "certainly not consistent" with values of the institution. "This
absolutely goes against everything that we stand for and everything he teaches
