Carbonated Soda Maker: An Eco-Friendly Product

Many of us are environmentally conscious these days as we look for ways to reduce the impact we have on our Earth.  Some may be surprised to find out that an at-home carbonated soda maker is an Earth-friendly product that helps to reduce our carbon footprint every time it is used.  Making your own soda and seltzer is better for the environment in a number of ways and is a growing practice among those conscientious consumers who want to do their part to reduce waste and save our resources.

One thing that makes soda makers an eco-friendly product is that it only requires tap water to create carbonated beverages at home.  There is no need to buy fancy bottled water to make delicious drinks at home.  Reducing the amount of plastic bottles in our landfills in a positive step toward keeping our Earth clean.

It takes a lot of fuel to transport bottled water to cities and towns all across this country.  Valuable fossil fuels are wasted in this process.  Most local communities have high quality tap water that is regularly tested for purity and safety.  Inexpensive home water filtration systems are also useful to consumers who prefer filtered water.  There really is no concrete proof that bottled water is any cleaner or healthier than the tap water we use everyday.

Soda manufacturers spend large amounts of time and money shipping their product across the country.  The gas guzzling trucks used to transport soda and other carbonated drinks only add to air pollution and fuel consumption.  Eliminate this waste by creating your own delicious beverages with products you have at home or those that can be found at the local market.

Making your own soda means that you are reducing the amount of aluminum cans and plastic bottles that soda is packaged in.  Some soda makers work with reusable bottles, eliminating unnecessary waste and packaging.

These small and efficient at-home carbonated soda makers do not require batteries to work.  Powered solely by the compressed air in the carbonator, there is no need to worry about buying expensive batteries or properly disposing of those that are no longer working.  Since no electricity is needed to work these appliances, soda makers help improve the environment by reducing the amount of emissions from electrical plants.

While making your own sodas may seem like a small change, even minor changes in our behaviors can have a huge impact on our environment.  The amount resources needed to produce, package, and transport beverages is staggering.  Despite nation-wide recycling programs and education, billions of cans and bottles still end up in our nation's landfills each year.  Any small step that we can take to reduce this waste will make a positive impact on the health of our planet.  You can do your part by rejecting packaged sodas and carbonated drinks and instead, making them at home with less waste and fuel consumption.

Know Some Facts About Carbonated Water

A minimum of 8 glasses of water per day must be drunk to keep you healthy. Most of the people prefer to drink flavored water. Carbonation has opened up a whole new arena of drinking liquids to satisfy almost every taste. Carbonic acid which is formed by this process, which gives a slight burning sensation when we drink a can of soda.

Seltzer and sparkling water are another names for water that has been treated with carbon dioxide to give it its effervescent quality. The gas, or fizz, that is released manifests itself in the bubbles we see in the soda or when we pop the cork of a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine. It also makes a fizzy sound that excites the senses of champagne and beer drinkers.

An interesting observation was seen when researching articles on carbonation. It is said that all carbonated beveragesare not created equal. Some may have more carbon dioxide added, depending on the result that is required. Carbon dioxide is a known toxin in higher concentrations: 1% (10,000 ppm) will make some people feel drowsy. Dizziness, headache, visual and hearing dysfunction, and unconsciousness occurs due to concentrations of 7% to 10% within a few minutes to an hour.

Introducing carbon dioxide (CO2) into a beverage increases its weight. This can be proven by weighing a bottle of seltzer, then carefully removing the cap so that no liquid escapes. Weigh the bottle again after release of the gas. You will notice a significant amount in weight loss. Shaking the bottle when it is closed then opening it will release more CO2 , which shows an even greater reduction in its weight. Is this the reason that obesity occurs due to regular intake of these drinks?

Club soda is also carbonated water of identical composition or it might have other minerals and additional amounts of table salt. These additives are put in to imitate the taste of homemade soda water. This is not true that carbonated water contains high amounts of sodium. No anything else has been added to this water except carbon dioxide. You can use carbonated water as a mixer for alcoholic beverages or it can be drunk alone.

CARBONATED WATER

You can make your own homemade brand of carbonated waterwith a soda siphon. Fill the bottle with water, recap it, then attach it to a small cylinder of carbon dioxide. Since other types of cylinders might contain lubricants in them so be cautious and use only food grade cylinders. Screw the cylinder on until it is pierced properly, releasing the carbon dioxide into it. Then shake properly the bottle. The bubbles will be smaller in size in comparison to those in commercially made brands. Once you are satisfied with your homemade carbonated water, it is time to add fruit flavors from allfreightfree.com to enhance the flavor of your drink.

If you were a carbonated beverage, which one would you be?

If you had to be a carbonated drink, which one would you be and what type of bottle or can or packaging would you come in?

Fanta cos i'd be bright orange and full of fizz.
I'd love to be in a curvaceous bottle that fitted perfectly in the hand

Primo Water cuts guidance on new product delay (Biz Journal)

Primo Water said it lost $3.3 million in the third quarter, compared to a loss
of $5.9 million in third quarter of 2010. It also reduced its revenue outlook
for the fourth quarter based on a delay in the launch of its line of
carbonated beverage home appliances. Revenues in the quarter more than doubled
from last year to $24.1 million on a big increase in water dispenser unit
sales, and about 1,200 new locations starting selling Primo products or its
water during the quarter. There are now about 22,600 locations selling
products from the Winston-Salem-based Primo (NASDAQ: PRMW) around the
country...
