I have an indirect hot water cylinder with an immersion heater rated at 20 amps but connected through an ordinary 13 amp 3 pin plug to a heavy duty socket. .
This is an original installation and I have always had to disconnect after a while because the plug gets very hot and the plastic on the live pin is discoloured from the heat. Why does the 13 amp fuse not blow if the heater draws 20 amps? Is there a 3 pin mains plug rated at 20 amps that can plug into a 3 pin socket?
Are you quite sure that it is 20Amp?
