Some Things Every Man Wants Or Thinks He Wants
Whether he's a cowboy riding the open range or a CPA stuck behind a desk, there are things have all men want to have. It's irrelevant whether or not it's practical or useful, if he doesn't have it, he wants it. What are the things every man wants and why do they want to have them?
There are a few men who can afford to indulge themselves in whatever they think they want. If they're looking for a luxury watch and can't make up their mind which one to buy, they just buy one or two of each. For these guys, it doesn't need to be a toss up between a flashy sports car and a luxurious sedan. They can afford to buy both. A guy might live thousands of miles from the ocean, but he'll still buy a yacht.
The wealthy are good examples of how very often we don't really need things but only want them. Luxury goods by definition aren't necessities - they're wants. How many luxury yachts, for example, ever make it to the open sea, even though they are capable of sailing the globe? How many sports cars ever see speeds of over 65 MPH, even though they're designed to top 200? How many expensive touring motorcycles 'tour' past the outskirts of town?
It's the same for all of us, rich or not so rich. Maybe only one dreadnought acoustic guitar out of a dozen ever gets to be played as it deserves to be played. The rest of them spend most of their time in the closet. Owning and playing a fine guitar is just about every man's dream. All men have their inner rock star who wants to get out.
Then there's the mountain bike. Other than a bicycle messenger, what man who lives in the city really needs all the gears you get on a Schwinn mountain bike? That doesn't stop them from being sold, though. Most of them are sold to men who dream about needing 24 gears. There's nothing wrong with that, though, especially if they take the bike out for a ride once in awhile. The important thing is not how badly you need the gears, but how nice it is to know they are there.
All a man needs is an excuse and he'll run out and buy a homelite chainsaw, even if it's just to cut a few twigs off a tree in the yard. Men love everything about chainsaws. They love the feel of them, the sound of them and the way they effortlessly cut through wood.
Who can blame us for indulging ourselves once in awhile? Sometimes our 'inner man' needs to express himself. So what if the macho machine you bought rarely sees the light of day. Just knowing it's there for you feels good and maybe that's all we need from it.
